Like his sons Roderick and Bart, Henk Vos is a very talented Dutch designer. When his father Wiebe Vos suddenly died in 1963, 23 year old Henk took over his furniture and upholstery factory in Groningen, in the North of the Netherlands. He turned it into a very succesful interior shop and completed many interior design projects. In 1996, together with his sons Roderick and Bart, and with Roderick’s wife Claire, he opened the leading interior design shopping plaza Maupertuus in Groningen, now Vos Interieur. The impressive building was designed by son Bart. Henk Vos’ design motto: ‘rather emptythan ugly’. Table VNU, his
first design in the collection, has been copied numerous times and is still produced by Linteloo today. ‘Jan and I have known each other for more than twenty years. When he was still working for Dutch company Gelderland, my first design for them, sofa 4800, was not appreciated by the director. But Jan persuaded him to put it into the collection. It is still being produced by Gelderland… I originally designed the now classic table VNU for the publishing company VNU, a predecessor of Sanoma NL.
