Makio Hasuike is the founder of the very first studio of industrial
design in Italy, the Maiko Hasuike & Co., and has designed the Dama
console in curved glass by Fiam.
He was born in 1938 in Tokyo, where he obtained his degree in Industrial Design at the Tokyo University of the Arts in 1962
After his professional training in Japan, he continued his activity
in Italy dealing with various design sectors. His tireless
experimentation work was developed in collaboration with major Italian
and European companies. Special attention was focused on observing
changes in the quality of life to satisfy emerging needs. Nothing was
left to chance; everything affecting the realisation of the product,
from technological innovation to production/distribution, was constantly
called into question.
In recent years he was invited to participate in debates and
meetings organised by important institutes such as the Politecnico
University in Milan, where he currently holds the Industrial Design
chair, and the Domus Academy. During his professional life lasting more than twenty years, he
won many awards, including the Compasso d'Oro, Macef, Triennale, Smau,
BIO (LjubLjana) and Design Plus (Frankfurt), Designpreis (Stuttgart) and
accolades such as the permanent collection at the New York Museum of
Modern Art.
