TU-BEs is a lighting object made of toothpaste tubes - a collaboration of Ingo Maurer and Ron Arad."It's the fascination of banal things, ordinary objects you see and use everyday,so well known you don't even notice them anymore. Their transformation takes them out of their context, evoking illusions, exploring their possibilities as light reflectors. This is the leitmotiv of TU-BE.", says Ingo Maurer.It was Ron Arad who had the idea to use these tubes for a lighting object,when he was working on the design for a toothpaste. Apart from the large object, there will also be smaller variants available as hanging lamps.
ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Ingo Maurer is the son of a fisherman and grew up on the island Reichenau in Lake of Constance with four siblings. After an apprenticeship as typesetter, he studied graphic design in Munich, Germany. 1960 Maurer left Germany for the USA, where he worked in New York and San Francisco as a freelance graphic designer.
